The third round of the World SBK Championship, the first European round following races in Australia and Indonesia, took place at the historic Assen Circuit in the Netherlands. This round also marked the start of the World Supersport 300 Championship.
The Assen Circuit, also known as the TT Circuit Assen, is one of the oldest and most iconic tracks in motorcycle racing. Located in the northeastern region of the Netherlands, it first hosted a Dutch TT race in 1925 and has been a fixture on the MotoGP and WSBK calendars for decades.
The circuit is known for its fast and flowing nature, with numerous high-speed corners and a challenging chicane. It’s also notorious for its changeable weather conditions, with rain often playing a role in the outcome of races.
Double win in Supersport with Niccolò Bulega on board the Aruba Racing WorldSSP Ducati Panigale V2. Niccolò took pole position and dominated both races, setting a new track record for the category. Bulega now leads the Supersport class standings with a comfortable 37-point lead over second place.
Valentin Debise also had a good performance, finishing fourth in Race 1 and sixth in Race 2 on his Yamaha R6 for Team GMT94. Unfortunately, it was a forgettable outing for Can Oncu and the Puccetti Kawasaki team. In Race 1, the Turkish rider finished seventh, and in Race 2, he was accidentally hit by Yari Montella and sustained double fractures. Raffaele De Rosa finished ninth in both races on his Orelac Racing Ducati V2, while Thom Booth Amos, riding the Motozoo Kawasaki, finished tenth twice and claimed the European Championship title. Adrian Huertas, returning from a serious injury, had two great races, recovering many positions after an unlucky qualifying. He finished thirteenth in Race 1 and eighth in Race 2. The Supersport 300 race was an exciting one, with Samuel Di Sora taking second place in Race 1 and sixth in Race 2 on the Prodina Kawasaki team, while Luis Perez Gonzalez finished fourth in both races. Matteo Vannucci of Team AG Motorsport Italia secured another podium finish on his speedy Yamaha R3. Matteo made a mistake on the last lap of Race 2 and was demoted to third place after finishing second. He had crashed in Race 1 after creating a gap between himself and the rest of the field. Vannucci had also claimed the Superpole
In the SBK category, Petrucci finished ninth in Race 1, fifteenth in the Superpole Race, and eighth in Race 2 on his Barni Spark Ducati Panigale V4R.
